Precise Diagnostics and Archiving
In modern dentistry, the value of a diagnosis depends not only on its accuracy at a single point in time, but on the ability to compare it with previous and future records. Digital archiving of diagnostic data transforms a series of snapshots into a longitudinal health story — one that supports better clinical decisions and better outcomes for patients.
What Does Diagnostic Archiving Include?
At Smilecraft, our digital archiving system stores:
Intraoral scans: Precise 3D models of the dentition, comparable over time to detect tooth wear, movement, or changes in restorations.
Intraoral photographs: High-resolution standardised images that document the colour, condition, and morphology of teeth and soft tissues at each visit.
Radiographs: Digital X-rays (bitewing, periapical, panoramic, CBCT) are stored with full metadata and can be compared with previous images to track changes in bone levels, root conditions, and restorations.
Periodontal records: Probing depth charts document gum health over time, allowing early identification of progressive periodontal disease.
Treatment records: A complete record of all treatments performed, materials used, and clinical decisions made.
Why Does Archiving Matter for Patients?
Continuity of care: When clinicians change or a patient is referred to a specialist, a complete digital record ensures continuity without the patient needing to repeat diagnostic procedures.
Change detection: Many dental conditions progress slowly. Comparing records from two or three years apart can reveal changes that would not be apparent in a single examination.
Medico-legal protection: Comprehensive records protect both patient and clinician in the event of disputes or complications.
At Smilecraft, our digital record system is GDPR-compliant, securely backed up, and fully accessible to patients on request.
