Invisible Protection for Your Teeth
Not all dental damage comes from decay or gum disease. Mechanical forces — whether from tooth grinding, clenching, sports impacts, or even the pressure of orthodontic treatment — can cause significant harm to teeth, restorations, and jaw joints. Protective dental appliances provide a discreet, non-invasive solution to these problems.
Occlusal Splints (Night Guards)
Bruxism — the involuntary grinding or clenching of teeth, most commonly during sleep — affects a significant proportion of the population. Over time, bruxism causes progressive wear of the tooth surfaces, fracture of teeth and restorations, jaw joint (TMJ) pain, and headaches.
An occlusal splint is a custom-fabricated appliance that fits over the upper or lower teeth. Worn during sleep, it absorbs and distributes the forces of grinding, protecting the natural tooth surfaces and any restorations from wear. It also reduces the muscle tension associated with clenching, often providing significant relief from jaw pain and morning headaches.
At Smilecraft, occlusal splints are fabricated from a precise digital scan for an accurate, comfortable fit.
Sports Mouthguards
A sports mouthguard protects the teeth, lips, and jaw from impact during contact sports. Dental trauma — fractured or avulsed (knocked-out) teeth — is one of the most common sports-related injuries and is largely preventable with a properly fitted mouthguard.
Custom-fitted mouthguards, fabricated from a precise impression or scan, fit far more securely and comfortably than over-the-counter boil-and-bite guards. They provide better protection, are less likely to interfere with breathing and speaking, and are more likely to actually be worn.
Orthodontic Retainers
Following orthodontic treatment, a retainer is the invisible protection against relapse — the natural tendency of teeth to shift back toward their original positions. At Smilecraft, we provide both fixed (bonded) retainers and clear removable retainers, and we emphasise to every orthodontic patient that long-term retainer wear is not optional — it is the final and permanent phase of orthodontic treatment.
