Preparation of the Final Dental Restoration

Once osseointegration is complete and the implant is confirmed to be stable, the exciting final phase of implant treatment begins: the fabrication and placement of the permanent dental restoration. This is the stage at which months of preparation translate into a visible, functional result.

From Implant to Crown

The process of creating the final restoration involves several precisely coordinated steps:

Impression or digital scan: The position of the implant is recorded — either with a traditional impression using an implant impression coping, or with a digital intraoral scanner. At Smilecraft, we use digital scanning wherever possible to maximise precision and patient comfort.

Laboratory fabrication: The digital or physical impression is sent to a dental laboratory, where a skilled dental technician fabricates the crown, bridge, or other prosthetic component. Materials include zirconia, lithium disilicate (e-max), or porcelain-fused-to-zirconia — all chosen for their strength, longevity, and natural appearance.

Try-in and adjustment: The restoration is trialled in the mouth before permanent fixation. The clinician checks fit, bite, and aesthetics. Any necessary adjustments are made at this stage.

Final placement: The confirmed restoration is permanently fixed to the implant using a screw or cement, depending on the design.

What Makes a Great Restoration?

A high-quality implant crown is indistinguishable from a natural tooth. It matches the colour, translucency, and shape of the surrounding dentition. It sits in perfect contact with adjacent teeth and opposing teeth, distributing biting forces evenly.

Achieving this level of quality requires close collaboration between the clinician and the dental laboratory — and a commitment to using premium materials and techniques.

At Smilecraft, we work with experienced certified dental laboratories and use only the highest quality restorative materials. The result is a restoration designed to function and look like a natural tooth for decades to come.
